DESCRIPTION:Nous recevrons en visio-conférence l’écrivain Charles Yu\, auteur du roman Interior Chinatown (2020) couronné du National Book Award et nominé pour le Prix Médicis du roman étranger. Nous échangerons sur ce roman-scénario protéiforme\, qui suit les péripéties du protagoniste Willis Wu\, souhaitant passer à l’écran du statut de « Generic Asian Man » au rôle ultime\, celui de « Kung-Fu Guy. » Sur le registre tragi-comique\, ce récit donne corps et voix aux représentations des minorités asiatiques sur la scène de l’identité américaine.\nCharles Yu est aussi scénariste pour des séries télévisées; il a publié deux recueils de nouvelles et un autre roman.\nLa discussion sera poursuivie de vive voix avec David Meulemans\, directeur des éditions Aux Forges de Vulcain qui ont publié en 2021 la traduction française sous le titre Chinatown\, Intérieur (trad. Aurélie Thiria-Meulemans).\n\nNB. pas de retransmission « hybride » : la visio-conférence aura lieu uniquement dans la salle du pôle numérique.\n\n—\n\n\nWe will hold a visioconference with writer Charles Yu\, author of Interior Chinatown\, which earned him the National Book Award and was a finalist for the Prix Médicis du roman étranger. This novel written in the form of a film script guides us through the adventures of Willis Wu\, the protagonist\, who works as an actor and wishes to be promoted from the status of « Generic Asian Man » to that of « Kung-Fu Guy. » With a style that is at once comic and tragic\, this novel voices the problematic place given to Asian Americans in the narratives of American identity.\nCharles Yu is also a screenwriter and published two collections of short stories and another novel.\nWe will also receive David Meulemans (on site)\, who is the founder of the publishing house Aux Forges de Vulcain and published the French translation in 2021 with the title Chinatown\, Intérieur (trans. Aurélie Thiria-Meulemans).
