What is specific about identity and politics in England? How different are English ideas of the nation distinct from, or similar to, ideas of the nation that lie behind recent political development across Europe?<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

John Denham<\/a> is a Professorial Research Fellow in the Department of Politics and International Relations and Director of the<\/span> Centre for English Identity and Politics<\/span><\/a><\/span>. He was Labour MP for Southampton Itchen (1992-2015) and served as a Minister (1997-2003 and 2007-2010). His final Ministerial role was as Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government and he chaired the Home Affairs Select Committee (2003-2007).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
