Sophie Mesplède

​

Agrégée d’anglais et docteure en Études anglaises de l’université de la Sorbonne, je suis maîtresse de conférences en arts visuels et civilisation britanniques à l’Université Rennes 2 depuis 2006. Après une thèse sur le graveur George Vertue (1684-1756), j’ai travaillé sur l’intersection du discours commercial et de la production picturale au XVIIIe siècle, et ai coordonné avec Charlotte Gould Marketing Art in the British Isles, 1700 to the Present. A Cultural History (Ashgate, 2012).

Je m’intéresse aujourd’hui à la représentation des rapports entre animaux et humains dans les arts visuels du long XVIIIe siècle, ainsi qu’aux problématiques environnementales du XVIIIe siècle à nos jours. En 2021, j’ai codirigé avec Charlotte Gould un ouvrage collectif paru chez Routledge et intitulé British Art and the Environment. Changes, Challenges and Responses since the Industrial Revolution.

Je fais partie du Comité de direction du GIS Sociabilités du 18ème siècle/ Sociability in the Eighteenth Century (https://www.univ-brest.fr/gis-sociabilites) et coordonne avec Phil Withington l’axe « Food, Drink and Sociability ».
