Research Programs 2022-2026
The TRASILT Axis has demonstrated its dynamism in its own scientific fields: Specialised Translation, Terminology, and Engineering. TRASILT will continue in its efforts by taking into account, in particular, in a transversal way, research in Technical Communication.
Program 1: The Contribution of Specialised Translation and Technical Communication to Society
This program will continue TRASILT’s research on Translation Policies, on translation methodologies for Humanities and Social Science publications, and on the implementation of open collaborative tools in translation and terminology. It will draw on the added value provided by collaboration with translation and technical communication professionals and the scientific and societal network developed as part of the MSHB-PUR-MESRI project. The objective is to respond to National calls for projects related to open publishing, some of which are already planned by the MESRI. The impact and the challenges of this research program opens perspectives on all research in SHS, Translation Policies, Multilingualism, and the issue of Minority Languages. This research will be available primarily through International journals; we would also like to develop the TermiCo collaborative database.
Program 2: Contributions and Uses of Linguistic Engineering and Tools for Specialised Translation and Technical Communication
This program fosters multidisciplinary collaborations on the contribution of Natural Language Processing (NLP) to the study of targeted discourses; online, it will continue to promote and disseminate the evaluation grid for the quality of specialised translations and research into translation technologies in particular through links with associations and learned societies in the field: AFFUMT, CERIJE, EMT, SoFT, SEPTET, EAST. TRASILT will work closer with DITA Molière—a French-speaking, Technical Writing community—to consider joint actions. The program will develop research on structured productions in technical writing thanks to the joint expertise of ECs and PASTs.
Program 3: Didactics of Specialised Translation and Technical Communication
This program will support studies on professionalisation, through the experience of apprentice translators and technical writers, and will ensure a prospective on the evolution of professions and practices with the contribution of artificial intelligence and the modularisation of content, but also on the didactics of these professions exercised in minoritised languages, often second languages, for translators and writers, both professionals and amateurs. The Axis intends to focus on the issue of quality, project management, and soft skills. The strong links established with the professional and institutional sectors, locally, nationally and internationally, will be mobilised and supported. The continuation of the creation of a journal on the Didactics of Translation and Technical Writing Professions, within the incubator of journals of the MSHB, financed by the National Fund for Open Science (FNSO), will be an asset for the TRASILT Axis and conducive to new interactions between research and training.
